Privacy Policy for Edu Central

Last updated: August 7th, 2025

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Edu Central ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use our application (the "App"). Edu Central is a tool designed to assist educators in planning lessons and organizing content efficiently. We are committed to safeguarding your privacy, protecting your intellectual property, and ensuring that no sensitive student information is stored on our platform.

This policy applies to all users of the App, including educators and any other individuals who interact with our services. By using the App, you agree to the terms outlined in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.

Our Privacy Promise in Plain Language

We know your time is valuable and legal documents are dense. Here's our promise to you in simple terms:

  • You own your content. The lesson plans and materials you create are your intellectual property, period. We are just the platform you use to organize them.
  • We DO NOT store student data. Our app is built so that you cannot and should not ever upload sensitive student information (PII). This protects you, your students, and us.
  • We don't sell your data. We will never sell your personal information or your content.
  • We use data to improve the app. We look at how users interact with features to make Edu Central better for everyone.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information when you use the App:

1.1 Personal Information

  • Account Information: When you register for an account, we may collect your name, email address, and other contact details.
  • Profile Information: Information you provide, such as your job title, school or institution name, or other professional details.
  • Content Data: Lesson plans, teaching units, materials, notes, or other content you upload or create within the App, provided it does not include student Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

1.2 Non-Personal Information

  • Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the App, such as features used, time spent on the App, and navigation patterns.
  • Device Information: Details about your device, including device type, operating system, IP address, and unique device identifiers.
  • Analytics Data: Aggregated data collected through third-party analytics tools to understand user behavior and improve the App.

1.3 Student Personally Identifiable Information (PII) Policy

Edu Central is explicitly designed and intended to not collect, store, or process Personally Identifiable Information (PII) related to students. This includes, but is not limited to, full names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, grades, student IDs, biometric data, health information, or any other data that directly identifies an individual student.

Users are strictly prohibited from uploading, entering, or otherwise transmitting any student PII into the App. This policy is fundamental to our commitment to protecting student privacy and is in place to ensure Edu Central's operations align with and simplify compliance obligations under critical data privacy laws, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Should any student PII be inadvertently uploaded or discovered on our systems in violation of this strict policy, Edu Central is committed to promptly deleting such data upon discovery. While users bear the primary responsibility for ensuring no student PII is uploaded, any such data found will be handled with utmost care to ensure its removal from our systems. Continued violation of this policy by any user may result in the suspension or termination of their account.

2. Data Ownership and Intellectual Property (The Trust Foundation)

We recognize that educators are fiercely protective of their intellectual property and their students' privacy. Our commitment to you is clear and unwavering:

You Own Your Content. Period. All lesson plans, teaching units, materials, notes, or other content you create or upload to the App ("User Content") remain your intellectual property, provided such content complies with our prohibition on student PII. Edu Central is solely a platform that hosts and facilitates the organization of your User Content. We do not claim any ownership rights over your User Content, and we will not sell, license, or use your User Content for any purpose other than to provide and improve the App’s services as described in this Privacy Policy.

Your rights to your User Content are protected under our Terms of Service, which explicitly state that you retain full ownership and control over your intellectual property. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to store, display, and process your User Content solely to enable the functionality of the App (e.g., to save your lesson plans or allow you to access them across devices). This license terminates when you delete your User Content or account, subject to any legal retention obligations.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use information collected from educators and non-personally identifiable usage data for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain the App’s functionality, including account management, content storage, and organization.
  • To personalize your experience, such as tailoring features to your preferences or role as an educator, based on your explicit input or app usage patterns (without using student PII).
  • To improve the App by analyzing usage patterns and identifying areas for enhancement, primarily through anonymized or aggregated data.
  • To communicate with you, including sending updates, notifications, or support-related messages. Please note that marketing communications will be opt-in, and may be sent via separate dedicated services.
  • To ensure the security of the App and protect against unauthorized access or misuse.
  • To comply with legal obligations or respond to lawful requests from authorities.
  • To enforce our prohibition on student PII and ensure compliance with this Privacy Policy.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information or User Content to third parties. We may share the information we collect from educators and non-personally identifiable usage data, as outlined in Section 3, in the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We may share information with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the App, such as cloud storage providers, analytics services (which typically process anonymized or aggregated usage data), or customer support platforms. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and are prohibited from using your User Content for any purpose other than providing services to us.
  • Legal Compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, such as in response to a court order, subpoena, or other legal process.
  • Business Transfers: If we merge, acquire, or sell parts of our business, user information may be transferred as part of the transaction, subject to confidentiality agreements and your continued ownership of User Content.

5. Data Security

We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information and User Content from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. These measures include encryption, access controls, and secure storage practices. However, no system or data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. We are committed to responding to security incidents in accordance with applicable laws and our internal policies. While users are solely responsible for adhering to our policies regarding the upload of content, including the strict prohibition on student PII, Edu Central maintains a commitment to data protection for all information on its systems.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal information and User Content only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy or to comply with legal requirements. You may request deletion of your account and associated User Content by contacting us at [insert contact email]. Upon deletion, your User Content will be removed from our systems, except for anonymized data retained for analytics purposes or as required by law.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information and User Content:

  • Access: Request access to the personal information or User Content we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.

8. Third-Party Services

The App may integrate with third-party services, such as cloud storage or analytics providers. These services have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them. We ensure that any third-party services we use are contractually prohibited from storing or processing student PII. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services beyond our contractual agreements.

9. Children’s Privacy

Edu Central is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Furthermore, the App is not designed to store any student information, regardless of age, to avoid any potential COPPA compliance issues. If we become aware that any student PII, including that of a child under 13, has been uploaded, we will take immediate steps to delete it and may suspend or terminate the user’s account.

10. International Data Transfers

If you are located outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in [Your Country or other jurisdictions]. We ensure that such transfers comply with applicable data protection laws, including implementing appropriate safeguards.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the App or via email. Your continued use of the App after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
